Irkutsk police warn, do not tell strangers bank card details, including number, expiration date and the three digit code on the back. In one day three residents lost money after calls and messages from scammers posing as bank employees. Losses were 50 thousand rubles, 30 thousand, and 150 thousand rubles.

Police are urging citizens to avoid disclosing information about their bank cards, their numbers, issue dates, three-digit security codes on the back, and the surname and first name. Disclosure of this data can lead to the loss of savings through unauthorized debits or transfers of funds by fraudulent means.
In just one day, three Irkutsk residents became victims of scammers. As police officers found out, in all cases the criminals acted according to roughly the same scheme.
On January 19, a woman called a pensioner and introduced herself as an employee of one of the banks. She said that scammers were trying to withdraw money from his account and, to ensure security, asked him to provide his bank card details. Some time later, 50,000 rubles were stolen, after which the man contacted the police.
In another case, a woman received an SMS message about a similar problem and, step by step over the phone, complied with the scammers’ demands, thereby losing 30,000 rubles.
Another incident occurred on January 20. According to the police, the information obtained about the victim’s bank card led to the loss of 150,000 rubles.
Police are now taking measures to solve the crimes.
