Near Irkutsk, more than 12 thousand participants are expected at Russia Ski Track 2016. Registration starts February 8, and the mass race will be held at the IrSAU ski base. Organizers promise familiar distances, sunny weather, soldiers porridge, tea and a warming tent, as well as an unusually rich prize fund. This year security will be maximized with metal detectors, baggage and vehicle checks, and rescuers, medics and firefighters will keep order.

At the start of the all-Russian mass race “Ski Track of Russia -2016”, which will be held near Irkutsk, more than 12,000 participants are expected. This was announced at a press conference by the Minister of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of the Irkutsk Region, Ilya Reznik.
Registration for those wishing to take part in the ski race begins on February 8 at the Resource and Methodological Center for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports at the address: Irkutsk, Barrikad, 81. Contact phone number (3952) 33-64-79.
However, on the day of the race, it will also be possible to register at the race venue - the ski base of the Irkutsk State Agrarian University. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will last until 11:00. At 11:45 the mass race will start, and at 12:45 the VIP race will begin.
As always, boys and girls born in 1998 and younger will run five kilometers. For adults, the distance is also the usual one — 10 kilometers. For participants in the VIP race — 2016 meters. As the organizers note, the weather next Sunday is expected to be sunny and not too frosty.
“The popularity and scale of the ‘Ski Track of Russia’ is growing year by year,” notes Ilya Reznik. “We especially felt this after the Winter Olympics in Sochi. Many large Irkutsk enterprises have already announced their collective participation in the race; in addition, 13 municipalities have applied to hold ‘Ski Track of Russia-2016’ in their territories. These are Sayansk, Zima, Bodaybo, Kirensk, Ust-Ilimsk, Chuna, and others.”
The number of partners willing to support mass sports is also growing.
“This year, despite the crisis, there are more companies than ever before that are ready to provide very valuable prizes to the winners and prize-winners of the race,” said the competition operator, director of the children’s and youth sports school “Russia” Tatyana Lyoshina. “We can say that the prize fund is already overloaded, and this year for the first time we will award not one, but two youngest skiers, as well as not one, but two large families.”
The organizers ask all skiers to arrive at the sports venue earlier, since in 2016 there will be unprecedented security measures at the race site: access to the competition venue through a metal detector, inspection of bags and backpacks, as well as cars whose owners want to get as close as possible to the start line.
In addition, the safety of the participants in the “Ski Track of Russia” will be ensured by EMERCOM employees, medics, and firefighters. Those who get hungry will be fed soldiers’ porridge and given tea, and for those who get cold, a warming tent will be set up.
