In Irkutsk, on the eve of Russian Science Day, the Innovation Forum will be held, with nanotechnologies, their development and use as the main topic. Participants from Russian regions and foreign countries will discuss food security, Lake Baikal ecology, new materials, and the development of the fuel and energy sector and housing and utilities. Guests will attend a scientific and practical conference, seminars, and presentations of Irkutsk scientists developments from nanodrugs to biological chips for diagnosing infections.

February 8 is celebrated as the Day of Russian Science. On the eve of this holiday, the “Innovative Forum” will be held at the “SibExpoCenter” exhibition complex. The main theme of the forum this year will be nanotechnologies, their development and application. Representatives of neighboring regions – Krasnoyarsk Krai, the Republic of Buryatia, the Novosibirsk and Chita regions, as well as companies from Austria, Germany, and China – will take part in its work.
Among the forum sections are food security and scientific support for the agro-industrial complex; rational use of natural resources, ecology of Baikal; new technologies, materials and equipment; Siberian science: its contribution to the economy and social sphere. Considerable attention will also be paid to issues of the fuel and energy complex and housing and communal services; and the development of the mineral resource base.
Within the framework of the forum, a scientific and practical conference and seminars devoted to the problems of industrial policy, the introduction of new technologies, and the production of science-intensive competitive products are planned. The forum will also host the presentation of the Irkutsk Region Governor’s awards in science and technology.
Institutes of the Irkutsk Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences will present their developments in the field of nanotechnologies. For example, medicinal preparations in nanoscale forms, which are quickly absorbed by the body and delivered directly to the problem area, will be demonstrated by the Institute of Chemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Employees of the Limnological Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences will talk about natural nanostructures that they discovered in the skeletons of some algae.
The East Siberian Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences will demonstrate innovative technologies in neurosurgery and cardiovascular surgery, as well as its latest development – biological chips that can simultaneously diagnose three types of tick-borne infections.
Minister of Economic Development, Labor, Science and Higher Education of the Irkutsk Region Vladimir Pashkov reminded that the exhibition of scientific achievements will be held in Priangarye for the 16th time already:
– It is impossible to improve the quality of life in the region without new technologies, new approaches in management and production. At the forum, we must bring scientists and those who know how to extract added value from know-how that is being born today within the walls of scientific institutes as close together as possible.
