In Irkutsk, police detained a car theft gang at the parking lot of the KomsoMoll mall while they were trying to steal a Honda Fit. A code grabber and break in tools were seized, and the car returned to its owner has been handed back. Two 27 year old Irkutsk residents are in custody, and police are checking their involvement in at least five car thefts.
Police officers neutralized a group of car thieves. The criminals were caught red-handed in a parking lot located near the KomsoMall shopping and entertainment center.The criminals were detained at the moment when they were trying to steal a car.
The car thieves had already gotten into the cabin of the Honda Fit. The police’s swift action left the suspects no chance to resist.
From the detainees, an algorithmic code grabber disguised as an alarm key fob, as well as other tools for breaking into car locks, were seized.
At present, two 27-year-old Irkutsk residents, one of whom has a prior conviction for robbery, have been placed in a temporary detention facility.
As reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Irkutsk Region, the foreign-made car has been returned to its rightful owner, who had returned from shopping at the shopping center.
A criminal case has been opened on the grounds of an offense under Part 3 of Article 30 and Part 3 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted theft).
Detectives believe that the detained Irkutsk residents are involved in at least five car thefts.
