In the Angara region, various cardiovascular diseases were registered in 519 thousand residents, and in 2015 mortality from circulatory diseases fell by 1.4 percent. The number of deaths among patients with hypertension and coronary heart disease decreased especially noticeably, saving hundreds of lives. Regional authorities stress that the main factor for further reduction is prevention and timely medical care.

Various cardiovascular diseases have been registered in 519 thousand residents of the Angara region. As the head of the department for organizing medical care for the adult population of the regional Ministry of Health, Olga Lebed, said, in 2015 mortality among the region’s population from diseases of the circulatory system decreased by 1.4% compared with the previous year, or by 300 cases.
— The greatest decrease was noted among patients suffering from hypertensive diseases — 16%. In addition, the number of fatal outcomes among patients with ischemic heart disease decreased by 3.9%: we managed to save 355 lives, — Olga Lebed noted.
Mortality from circulatory system pathologies in the Angara region over the past 4 years has decreased from 713 cases per 100 thousand population in 2011 to 671 cases per 100 thousand in 2015. The largest share of deaths occurs in the age group from 50 to 60 years.
— Compared with other regions of Russia in reducing the mortality rate from diseases of the circulatory system, we are in the middle: we do not have sharp jumps; nevertheless, we are observing a steady decline — about 1.5% every year, — the specialist explained.
According to Elena Golenetskaya, Deputy Minister of Health of the Baikal region, prevention plays the biggest role in reducing the incidence of cardiovascular diseases, since most often mortality is associated with seeking medical help at the final stages of the disease or with a reluctance to follow doctors’ advice on maintaining one’s health.
— No matter how many high-tech centers are created, they are needed only when a major problem arises. It is much more important to prevent this problem, to make sure that a person does not get sick and does not end up even in the best center with either a myocardial infarction, a stroke, or some other pathology, — Elena Golenetskaya said.
