On the evening of February 21, a fire broke out at the Shenyang cafe restaurant on 1st Sovetskaya Street, starting in the kitchen from oil igniting in a wok. Visitors managed to leave on their own, and staff tried to put out the fire before firefighters arrived, but failed. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, about 20 square meters, and prevented it from spreading to the neighboring office space.

The fire at the cafe-restaurant “Shenyang,” located in the basement on 1st Sovetskaya Street, occurred on the evening of February 21.
Visitors were able to leave the premises on their own before the firefighters arrived.
“I was in the cafe at the time of the fire. The fire started in the kitchen. Oil caught fire in the wok, which is a large deep frying pan. The cafe staff called the fire department, and before they arrived we tried to deal with the fire ourselves, using five fire extinguishers, but we were unable to put it out. The firefighters arrived immediately, no more than five minutes had passed,” said Shenyang employee Vyacheslav Dmitrievich.
All of the city’s emergency services arrived at the scene: firefighters, rescuers, police officers, and an ambulance. Firefighters reported that the blaze raged over an area of about 20 square meters.
The cafe guests went home, and the cafe staff waited for the fire to be extinguished in the fire truck: they had run outside without warm clothing.
The management of “Shenyang” came to the scene of the fire but declined to comment. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to the neighboring office space. Investigators from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the police are looking into the circumstances of the incident.
