13th of March, at the Ogniki station of the Baikal-Amur Mainline, ski racing competitions will take place as part of the XXXVI Great Mountaineering Marathon, in which both professional athletes and amateurs can participate. The competitions will feature three distances - 22, 36, and 52 km in the classic style. For the youngest participants - children under 10 years old, a distance of one kilometer is provided.- In 2015, the Great Mountaineering Marathon gathered a record number of participants - over 400 people. This year, we hope that the marathon will be just as popular, - noted the chief judge of the competition, Sergey Voytenko. - The Great Mountaineering Marathon can already be called international, as participants come not only from the Irkutsk region and Russia but also from other countries - the USA, Estonia, Latvia. Moreover, our marathon was included in the Russian Ski Marathon Cup - "Russialoppet" in 2007.
Participants must be juniors born in 1996-1997, men and women no younger than 1992, competing in ten age groups, and men and women born in 1941 and earlier.
The Great Mountaineering Marathon is not only about ski racing. On August 20, sky running competitions (a race to Mount Chersky) will take place, and on September 10, a mountain biking marathon will be held. The overall winner of the Great Mountaineering Marathon Cup will be determined based on the results of the three races.
To participate in the Great Mountaineering Marathon, registration must be completed by March 9, 2016, on the website www.alpmarafon.ru. Registration on the day of the marathon will be conducted from 9:00 to 11:45. The general start of the competitions is scheduled for 12:00.
