Irkutsk Customs said the goods most often smuggled through the regional airport are cigarettes, then alcohol, nasvay, medicines and bladed weapons. Since 2016 inspectors have opened 111 administrative cases, seized over 12 thousand cigarettes and more than 5 kg of nasvay. The report also explains the limits on importing alcohol and medicines containing banned substances.

The most common items that are attempted to be illegally brought into the regional center are cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, pills, and cold weapons. As the press service of the Irkutsk Customs reported on March 17, 2016, since the beginning of 2016, inspectors at the customs post of Irkutsk Airport have initiated 111 cases of administrative offenses. Most of them are related to the failure to declare tobacco products — 61 cases have been initiated and more than 12,000 cigarettes have been seized. Another 5 cases were initiated due to the illegal transport of the non-smoking tobacco mixture nasvay, as a result of which more than 5 kg were seized.
Also, 20 more cases were initiated due to the illegal transport of knives and brass knuckles. Nine cases were initiated due to the illegal transport of alcohol. Customs legislation provides that only five liters of alcohol per person may be brought in without paying customs duties.
In addition, medicines containing narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors are attempted to be brought in undeclared. Eight administrative cases were initiated. Such drugs can be brought across the border only by providing documents confirming the necessity of their use for medical reasons (prescriptions, doctor’s orders).
