This morning, a wooden house at 69 Dekabrskikh Sobytiy Street caught fire. The main forces of the Irkutsk rescuers were dispatched here.
The fire started around 7 a.m., and the flames spread very quickly; some of the residents managed to run out of the house without even taking their documents with them. The fight against the fire lasted more than three hours.
According to the residents, those responsible for what happened were the neighbors, who were using their utility rooms for purposes other than intended. "In the evening, the neighbors in the back had a heater in the storage room. They left it on overnight. There was a party there at night, a disco. It wasn’t until 5 o’clock that things calmed down there," says Hasan Kamchiyev, a fire victim.
Five families lived on the two floors of the wooden house, including families with children. No one was injured. While the rescuers were working at the scene, traffic in the center of Irkutsk was blocked, and the entire center was stuck in a traffic jam from the morning.
There are still no official comments on the cause of the fire or on whether housing will be provided to the fire victims.
