In Irkutsk, the first rain of the year was recorded on March 20, the Hydrometeorological Center said. It first snowed wet snow, then for a little over an hour there was light rain, while only wet snow fell in the suburbs. Specialists note that the citys warming effect influenced the weather.

The first rain of the current year was recorded in Irkutsk on March 20, the Hydrometeorological Center’s press service reported on March 21.
“The Irkutsk meteorological station recorded rain. At first it was wet snow, and then from 12:05 to 13:20 there was rain. It was light, but still. In the suburbs it was just wet snow. The warming influence of the city played a role here,” said a Hydrometeorological Center employee.
In 2015, city residents observed rain at the beginning of December.
