In Irkutsk, a nationwide campaign to plant Siberian cedar and juniper, Urban ECO bomb, will take place. Participants are offered seedlings at wholesale prices and to join a joint planting expected in late May. The organizers want to involve residents in improving the city and air quality, and Irkutsk residents have already ordered hundreds of seedlings. In addition, everyone who places an order will receive a cedar as a gift.
The all-Russian tree-planting campaign for Siberian cedar and juniper, “Urban ECObomb,” will take place in the regional center, the event organizer Maria Boldakova said.To take part, you need to join the event group on VKontakte and submit an application by April 10 to purchase seedlings at wholesale prices: the cedar costs 55 rubles, and the juniper costs 45 rubles.
Maria Boldakova said the goal of the campaign is to encourage Irkutsk residents to improve the city, care for their yard or plot, and generally improve the air quality.
“The administration has allocated us a plot for a joint planting. We want to involve educational institutions and museums — they have their own territory. In general, you can plant wherever you wish, the main thing is that nothing interferes with it,” Boldakova said.
The planting date will be announced after the seedlings are received, tentatively at the end of May.
To date, Irkutsk residents have ordered 335 cedars and 367 junipers. Also, anyone who places an order can receive a cedar seedling as a gift.
