The Ice Palace in Irkutsk will still be completed. Regional authorities plan to use not only budget funds but also private investment. The project and building design will remain unchanged.

The Ice Palace in Irkutsk will be completed, said First Deputy Governor of the Irkutsk Region Yury Paranichev at a seminar-meeting with representatives of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Sport-Engineering”.
According to Yury Paranichev, in addition to funds from the regional budget, private investment will be attracted to complete the construction of the sports facility. The Ice Palace project will not be changed. The appearance of the facility will also remain unchanged, but new, more modern materials will be used in the construction work.
– The construction of sports facilities in the Irkutsk Region can be called a failure, said Yury Paranichev. – This especially applies to the capital of the Angara region. We do not have enough pools with 50-meter lanes, and there is no proper sports arena. Although there have been some shifts in this direction. For example, the construction of an international-level sports complex at the Irkutsk College of Physical Education. In the coming years, I hope, we will build similar facilities throughout the Irkutsk Region. In particular, we will complete the construction of the Ice Palace.
As a reminder, construction of the Ice Palace in Irkutsk began in 2001, but all work was halted in 2004. The main reason was a lack of funds in the city budget. In 2007, the facility was transferred to the region’s balance sheet.
