In Irkutsk, Spring and Labor Day was widely celebrated. A rally at the Trud sports complex drew over 2 thousand residents, and the regional head, the mayor, and union representatives greeted participants. After the march to the Eternal Flame of Glory memorial, Irkutsk residents were awaited by a festive concert in Kirov Square and the Favorit 2016 bike race.

In the regional center, festive events were held in honor of Spring and Labor Day. A rally organized by the Irkutsk Regional Association of Trade Union Organizations took place in the square near the Trud sports complex. More than 2,000 Irkutsk residents took part in the event. The city residents were greeted by the head of the region, Sergey Levchenko, Mayor Dmitry Berdnikov, chairman of the Irkutsk Regional Association of Trade Union Organizations Alexander Obolkin, and many others.
"Irkutsk is famous for its labor traditions. Our task today is to preserve and pass on to the younger generation all the best that has been built up by previous generations, to instill in them respect for and love of work. We are obliged to support the youth of Irkutsk - those who are just beginning their working lives. Because they are the future of Irkutsk. The city administration is implementing a support program for young doctors, teachers, and cultural workers, despite all difficulties. One can endlessly refer to the crisis and hardships, but if you and I do not begin to work every day shoulder to shoulder on solving the tasks facing the city, we will not move forward even a step. Everything is in our hands! And I am sure that we will succeed!" the mayor of the regional center, Dmitry Berdnikov, addressed the people of Irkutsk.
After the rally ended, its participants marched in a festive column along Lenin Street to the Eternal Flame of Glory memorial, where they laid flowers. At 12:30, a festive concert program dedicated to May Day began in Kirov Square. Creative groups performed for the city residents and guests of Irkutsk. From 13:00 to 15:00, the city hosted a bicycle race - the Favorit-2016 criterium.
