In the Irkutsk region, the quota for foreign labor was cut by 22 percent, now it is more than 39.2 thousand people instead of the previously planned 50 thousand. The decision was made to protect the regional labor market during the crisis, while employers needs and the list of vacancies were adjusted with priority for Russian citizens. The region still mainly needs highly skilled construction workers.

The quota for foreign labor for the Irkutsk Region has been reduced by 22% compared with the amount previously submitted to the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation.
Thus, it amounts to more than 39.2 thousand people. This is reported in a press release from the regional government. The previously planned figure was 50 thousand, including 20 thousand from non-CIS countries and 30 thousand from CIS countries. The decision to reduce it was made in order to ensure protection of the regional labor market in the conditions of the economic crisis, the statement says, citing Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Labor, Science and Higher Education Natalya Bruskova.
The Interdepartmental Commission of the Irkutsk Region on migration issues has adjusted the previously approved allocation by specialties, taking into account employers’ applications, the situation on the labor market, and the list of vacancies (priority right to fill them is granted to Russian citizens). In general, the region needs highly qualified construction workers (bricklayers, concrete workers, installers, rebar workers, carpenters, finishers). Foreign labor does not have a significant impact on the labor market of the Irkutsk Region, the press service statement notes.
