In Irkutsk, reconstruction has begun of the road connecting Starokuzmikhinskaya and Akademicheskaya streets. A new roundabout with more lanes and a changed traffic pattern without crossing opposing flows will appear here. The administration expects this to reduce accidents and increase the section capacity by 40 percent. Work is planned to finish by September 30, and the first stage, drainage and dewatering, is already underway.

In Irkutsk, reconstruction has begun on the road that connects Starokuzmikhinskaya and Akademicheskaya streets. The work is planned to be completed by September 30.
The project for the new roundabout provides for an increase in the number of lanes, as well as traffic organization so that there is no intersection with oncoming traffic.
- On this section, we plan to completely change the traffic pattern, since it is largely conflict-prone. As a result, we have a serious accident hotspot here. When we reduce accidents at this interchange, we will be able to increase the capacity of Starokuzmikhinskaya and Akademicheskaya on this stretch by 40%, which in today's road conditions is already a necessity, - noted Mikhail Malykhin, head of the road activities department of the city improvement committee.
The contractor is already known, and the first stage of work has begun: drainage and groundwater lowering. Next, the road base will be laid, and the surface will be reinforced with geogrid.
According to the Irkutsk administration, by September 30 the contractor will move the streetlights to new locations, install granite curbs, apply road markings, and put up traffic signs on this section.
