Pediatric dentist Alexander Anikin helped detain a suspect in the robbery of a beer bar on Borodin Street in Irkutsk. At night a man with a knife stole the takings and tried to flee, but Anikin, passing by on a bicycle, stopped him and held him until police arrived. Now a criminal case has been opened, and police are considering rewarding the doctor.

A 37-year-old pediatric dentist at a dental clinic, Alexander Anikin, helped detain a suspect in the robbery of a beer bar on Borodina Street, the Irkutsk Region Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on May 23 on its website.
The incident occurred on the night of May 18. A bar employee reported to the police duty unit that an intoxicated patron waited until the establishment closed and, threatening with a knife, stole the proceeds. The suspect tried to flee, but at the moment of the attack Anikin was riding by on a bicycle. He detained the alleged robber and held him until law enforcement officers arrived.
“I do not consider my act to be anything heroic. I used to practice karate, and sports training instilled in me a character that did not allow me to pass by in this situation,” Alexander said.
A criminal case has been opened over the incident, and police are deciding whether to award Anikin.
