The First Deputy Governor Viktor Ignatenko announced plans to integrate the Irkutsk branch of MGLU into the structure of Irkutsk State University after its liquidation. This decision followed recent accreditation, where the branch failed in 13 out of 20 areas. Ignatenko also noted that the fate of the branch's premises will be decided by the Ministry of Education and Science, emphasizing that they are intended solely for educational institutions.
First Deputy Governor Viktor Ignatenko voiced his position on the future of the Institute of Foreign Languages. According to Ignatenko, the leadership of the Irkutsk region maintains the stance that the Irkutsk branch of the Moscow State Linguistic University (MSLU) should become a structural unit of Irkutsk State University (ISU) after its liquidation. This statement was made after the academic council of MSLU decided last week to liquidate the Irkutsk branch of the university.
– Our position remains unchanged. The Linguistic University should transition into the structure of ISU. There is nothing extraordinary about this event. To implement this transition, the branch needs to be liquidated. This is what MSLU has done. I believe this is a step forward for the position of the Irkutsk region. Currently, the regional government is awaiting the official order from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation to see the decisions of the founder regarding the Irkutsk branch of MSLU, – stated Ignatenko.
Viktor Ignatenko also touched upon the fate of the premises currently occupied by the MSLU branch:
- The fate of the property complex should be decided by the Ministry of Education and Science. However, as a general rule, the property of a university (or branch) is transferred to where the teachers will go. We will not allow any commercial establishments to be located there. Moreover, the premises currently occupied by the institute are designated for educational institutions.
It is worth noting that the Irkutsk branch of MSLU did not pass accreditation in 13 out of 20 fields in March. ISU and BGU agreed to accept students from the non-accredited fields.
