In Irkutsk, pilot operation of a contactless trolleybus has begun, which can travel part of the route on batteries. The new route No. 3u connects the suburb of Marat and the settlement of Molodezhny, where the trolleybus will move 4.5 kilometers without contact with the power grid. The conversion of a standard trolleybus cost 1 million rubles, which is significantly cheaper than buying a new one. This project aims to develop urban transport and improve the ecological situation in the region.

In Irkutsk, a pilot operation of a contactless trolleybus has begun, which can travel part of the route on batteries, without contact with the power grid.
The city authorities have placed the vehicle on a new route No. 3u from the suburb of Marat to the settlement of Molodezhny and back. The length of the route one way is 19 km, of which the trolleybus will travel 4.5 kilometers without the contact network.
It should be noted that a standard trolleybus has been modified, with battery packs installed. The authorities spent about 1 million rubles on the retrofitting, which is three times cheaper than purchasing a new contactless trolleybus.
- Such vehicles are necessary for us, as there are many directions, including around Irkutsk, that are not covered by public transport, and we plan to develop the experience of extending trolleybus routes. Plus, the environmental aspect is relevant for the entire Baikal region, - said Dmitry Berdnikov.
