At IGPU they discuss a possible change in the university status amid stricter accreditation requirements from the Ministry of Education and Science. Vice rector Olga Kuznetsova says it is not advisable to turn the oldest pedagogical university in Angara region into a multidisciplinary university training lawyers, economists and aircraft builders. The final decision will be made in Moscow in the second ten days of March, but it will not affect current students and future teachers.

According to Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Olga Kuznetsova, this is not advisable for one of the oldest universities in the Angara region:
- A hundred-year-old university that trained specialists for the education sector will suddenly start training lawyers, economists, and aircraft builders. What will it become? Is it necessary to increase the number of enlarged groups? That is the question we are facing now.
At present, the Ministry of Education and Science has tightened the requirements for universities when undergoing accreditation. When the pedagogical university underwent accreditation 4 years ago, the number of specialty groups did not play a special role. Now, however, this is one of the key requirements for a university to confirm its status as a university.
The 2009 graduates will receive state-standard diplomas for graduating from a state pedagogical university. The diplomas of future generations of students depend on the status that the pedagogical university acquires.
The final decision regarding the status will be made in Moscow in the second ten days of March. But this will not affect current students of ISPU or those who decide to pursue the teaching profession in the future.
