Irkutsk may get direct air service with Munich, Mayor Vladimir Yakubovsky said at the presentation of the Irkutsk Tourist project. If an agreement is reached, the German city will be the first in Europe with direct flights to Irkutsk. Authorities hope this will make travel from Europe easier and boost tourism to the region.
This was announced at a briefing during the presentation of the “Irkutsk Tourist” project by the city mayor Vladimir Yakubovsky. Munich will become the first European city from which planes will fly directly to Irkutsk.According to Vladimir Yakubovsky, specialists from Irkutsk Airport are currently working in Germany on the issue of establishing air service. “The organization of direct air service will mean improved conditions for transportation from Europe to Irkutsk, and this is one of the components of increasing tourist traffic,” Vladimir Yakubovsky noted. At present, regular flights from the capital of the Angara region are operated only to cities in the Asia-Pacific region: Bangkok, Beijing, and Shenyang.
