Irkutsk is updating its public transport fleet, the city bought 26 new trolleybuses for 96 million rubles, and 18 have already arrived and are set to enter service in April. The new vehicles from Vologda should make rides more comfortable in winter and summer, and all the citys trolleybuses, new and old, will be equipped with navigation for more accurate control of schedules and intervals.
The authorities of Irkutsk are concerned with modernizing the public transport fleet. As part of the fleet renewal program, 26 new trolleybuses were purchased, 18 of which have already arrived and will go into service in April. All of them were bought with funds from the city budget. Their purchase cost the city 96 million rubles.
- The trolleybuses that have arrived are already ready to go into service; however, the terms of the contract are such that it is considered fulfilled only when the entire batch of new vehicles has arrived in Irkutsk, - Irkutsk Deputy Mayor Nikolai Khitsenko explained to journalists. - Therefore, the trolleybuses that have arrived are still undergoing operational preparation.
The new vehicles arrived in the regional center from Vologda. Their doors close according to a completely different principle than those of the old ones, so cold air in winter practically does not penetrate into the passenger compartment, and passengers will not freeze on the way. In summer, tinted windows will protect them from the heat.
Note that the last time the city administration purchased new trolleybuses was in 2005.
New trams are not the only innovation. All trolleybuses, both new and old, will be equipped with a navigation system. Its main task is to manage the movement of all the city's trolleybuses from a single dispatch center. It will make it possible to clearly track the schedule and intervals of vehicle movement.
