At Irkutsk airport, reconstruction of the domestic flights building has been completed, and the terminal is set to open on April 10. The 578 million ruble upgrade added modern equipment, including new ventilation, heating, fire suppression, video surveillance systems and a long awaited baggage claim belt. In addition, airport management spoke about plans for further reconstruction of the runway and a project for a new airport, which despite the crisis they intend to build by 2035.

The reconstruction of the domestic terminal at Irkutsk Airport has been completed, and its official opening is scheduled for April 10. This was announced by the general director of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Irkutsk Airport,” Konstantin Bylinin, at a press conference on Friday
The construction of the terminal cost 578 million rubles. All the equipment inside is new and modern. These are the ventilation, heating, fire suppression, and video surveillance systems. A special source of pride is the long-awaited baggage claim belt. It now meets all standards. According to the airport management, the building is fully ready for operation. "For a long time, the terminal of 'Irkutsk Airport' did not fully meet the requirements imposed on passenger service. So we are glad that we have completed this major work. I think you will all like it. Of course, it is not Bangkok, but I assure you that our terminal will look better than terminals at many major airports," promised Konstantin Bylinin, general director of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Irkutsk Airport".
At the press conference, Konstantin Bylinin also touched on the topic of further reconstruction of the runway. It will be covered with an additional layer of asphalt - for a more comfortable landing of aircraft. These works were planned to begin in 2009, but they had to be postponed - by about a year. How long the runway repair will take and how much it will cost is still unclear. But it is already known that, due to the reconstruction, planes will temporarily be received at the airports of Ulan-Ude, Bratsk, and at the airfield of the Irkutsk aircraft plant. As for the new airport, it will be built despite the crisis. The project will be presented to Transport Minister Levitin next week, during his stay in Irkutsk. Let me remind you that the construction of the new air gateway of Eastern Siberia is expected to be completed in 2035. The airport will be able to serve up to seven million passengers annually.
