In Siberia, sudden April warmth brought a temperature record, on Sunday the air warmed to 18.8 C, breaking a record held for 83 years. But meteorologists warn it is too early to welcome spring, from midweek cooling, strong wind, rain and wet snow are expected. Until the end of April, subzero temperatures are still possible in the region, both day and night.

Spring came to our city all at once and unexpectedly. For several days now, an anticyclone has been in control over the territory of Siberia, bringing abnormally warm weather. Thus, last Sunday meteorologists recorded a temperature record of +18.8°C. The previous one was one degree lower and stood for a full 83 years.
But has spring finally come into its own?
According to the Hydrometeorological Center’s forecast, it is too early to rejoice. From the middle of the week, a drop in temperature to plus one to plus six degrees is expected: a powerful cyclone is moving toward our region. Meteorologists say such fluctuations are typical for April. The change in weather will be accompanied by strengthening winds of up to 18-22 meters per second. Rain and wet snow are also expected. By the end of April, subzero temperatures will still occur in the region both day and night.
- By the end of the week, we expect a spell of windy, cold weather, and after that, more significant drops in daytime temperatures and nighttime temperatures, says Tatyana Dikan, deputy head of the Irkutsk Center for Hydrometeorology and Monitoring.
