In Irkutsk region since early 2009, 31 thousand unemployed residents found jobs, while only 13 thousand were officially registered. Governor Igor Yesipovsky said registered unemployment rose to 2.9 percent, but authorities are ready to employ up to 78.5 thousand people within a year. He also noted the first signs of economic stabilization and hoped such large layoffs would not be needed.

Jobs have been found since the beginning of 2009 for 31 thousand unemployed residents of the Irkutsk Region. Of these, only 13 thousand are officially registered as unemployed. Such data was provided by the Governor of the Irkutsk Region, Igor Esipovsky, during a press conference on April 15.
Almost fifteen thousand people registered with the Employment Service have been placed in jobs in the Irkutsk Region since the beginning of this year.
At the same time, the registered unemployment rate in the Angara region has risen from 1.8% to 2.9% since January 1, 2009. Currently, 38,900 people are officially recognized as unemployed. 535 organizations in the Irkutsk Region have announced layoffs of 14,700 people.
According to Igor Esipovsky, 78,500 people may be employed in the Irkutsk Region during the current year. “We are ready for such a number of unemployed, but I think there will not be such a large-scale reduction,” the head of the Angara region assured. Another about 30 thousand jobs were taken by people not registered with the Employment Service. Currently, the number of registered unemployed is 2.8% of the total population. By the end of the year, 78.5 thousand people are planned to be employed. However, according to the Governor of the Irkutsk Region, Igor Esipovsky, such large-scale measures will not be needed. “Enterprises are beginning to recover: electricity consumption is growing in organizations, and the volume of cargo transported is increasing. These indirect signs are indicators of stabilization,” Igor Esipovsky noted.
