In Irkutsk, from April 24 to 26, the Baikal KVN League will start, uniting teams from the Irkutsk region and Buryatia in one competition venue. At a meeting of Mayor Vladimir Yakubovsky with the Baikal team, they discussed the development of the KVN movement, the search for new talent, and the lack of a permanent training base. An expanded meeting with universities and business is also planned to attract new teams, and to end the Year of Youth in Irkutsk with a large KVN festival.

The Baikal KVN League is kicking off in Irkutsk, with its games to be held on April 24-26. The events will serve as a single competitive platform for all teams of the Club of the Funny and Inventive in the Irkutsk Region and the Republic of Buryatia. Issues related to organizing the Baikal KVN League and the prospects for the development of the KVN movement in the city of Irkutsk and the Angara region were the focus of a meeting between the Mayor of Irkutsk, Vladimir Yakubovsky, and the KVN team “Baikal,” which took place yesterday at the city administration.
“KVN is popular not only among students, but also in schools. The Baikal League should identify new talents, new guys who will be able to perform at a high level,” Vladimir Yakubovsky noted. “We have created a system that not only unites the rather scattered KVN teams, but also creates conditions for a direct transition of guys from school KVN to student KVN. Many players of the KVN team ‘Baikal’ have followed this path. For example, our captain Yuri Yashnikov first played in school KVN, then in student KVN, and later in the KVN Premier League,” said Mikhail Zubkov, director of the Baikal KVN League and director of the KVN team “Baikal.”
The Irkutsk KVN players told the mayor that the team currently does not have a permanent venue for training and rehearsals: “Right now we rehearse in the assembly hall of IrSTU, and we are very grateful to the university for providing such an opportunity, but we cannot consider this venue permanent,” said Mikhail Zubkov.
Vladimir Yakubovsky promised to help solve the problem: “We will analyze the situation and see what options there are. I am sure a solution will be found, because there are quite a lot of halls in the city,” said the Mayor of Irkutsk.
In addition, it was decided to hold an expanded meeting with the participation of the Mayor of Irkutsk Vladimir Yakubovsky, the Baikal KVN League, rectors of Irkutsk universities, and representatives of business organizations whose teams play KVN. At this meeting, it is planned to discuss issues related to involving KVN teams from major industrial enterprises and educational institutions of Irkutsk in games in the Baikal League.
At the end of the meeting, the players of the KVN team “Baikal” thanked the Mayor of Irkutsk for the support the city authorities had provided to the team over the past years and promised on their part to take the most active part both in preparations for the anniversary of the capital of the Angara region and in major citywide events. In particular, it is planned to conclude the Year of Youth in Irkutsk with a large KVN festival.
