Today is a festive day for the visually impaired in Irkutsk. A rehabilitation room has opened at the library for the blind. This is the second such center from the Urals to the Far East. Until today, the nearest one was in Biysk in the Altai Territory, but to get there, people had to wait in line for several years.
Now visually impaired people have every opportunity for comfortable study of literature. They listen to books. Several editions fit onto a special flash card. Visitors can play chess or checkers. They can also have their blood pressure measured. "The rehabilitation room is a central base that will provide all local organizations in the Irkutsk Region with methodological literature. We have nine of them. Therefore, all our disabled people will use the services of this room," said Galina Katruk, chair of the Irkutsk Regional Branch of the All-Russian Society of the Blind.
The room was equipped with funds from a presidential grant. Its cost amounted to 780,000 rubles.
