Irkutsk fountains have successfully survived the winter, repair crews have already checked the basins, pipes, and even ran them for several hours to ensure they work. From May 1, all eight fountains will delight residents again, and the most complex one, at the Trud sports palace, will operate in a light dynamic mode with automatic control, lighting, and protection from strong wind. To keep them in order, security will again be arranged at each fountain after startup.

Yesterday, all the fountains in Irkutsk were inspected by repair crews, checking both the bottom of the basin and the pipes. The fountains were even turned on for a couple of hours to make sure they were working properly.
Fortunately, all eight fountains made it through the winter safely. As tradition dictates, on May 1 they will begin delighting city residents with their beauty.
Unlike an ordinary fountain, where it is enough to turn on the water, the fountain at the Trud sports palace is light-dynamic and requires a special approach. After the water is turned on, it is necessary to check and fine-tune the direction of each jet. But as soon as people finish the adjustments, the technology takes over. The computer will automatically turn the fountain on at 10 a.m. and turn it off after midnight, as well as change the jet compositions and switch on the lighting. And that is not the full list of its capabilities.
As Sergey Tretykov, general director of the fountain installation and repair company, explained, there are wind sensors — they are set to the wind speed and, in strong winds, shut down all equipment to prevent water from being thrown onto the square. There are level sensors — if the water evaporates, fresh water is added.
Irkutsk officials are upset that the fountains serve not as a decoration for the city, but as a trash bin for those around them. As soon as they start operating, litter will rain into the basins. Therefore, after startup, as in last year, security will be on duty at each fountain.
