The International Uranium Enrichment Center in Angarsk will soon be placed under IAEA safeguards, ensuring control over the peaceful use of nuclear fuel and agency inspectors participation in agreements between project countries. Russia and Japan will also sign an intergovernmental agreement on the peaceful use of atomic energy, including nuclear nonproliferation.

The International Uranium Enrichment Center in Angarsk will soon be placed under IAEA guarantees (the International Atomic Energy Agency). This was reported by a representative of the Public Council for Nuclear Energy Safety in the Irkutsk Region
“The process of involving IAEA representatives in the work of the center is necessary, since it will ensure guarantees that it is precisely nuclear fuel that will be supplied to the participating countries, and not, for example, nuclear warheads. It is also necessary to include IAEA inspectors in the process of drawing up contracts between the countries participating in the IUEC project,” he says. In addition, he believes that this will be a very big step in the work of the IUEC and in cooperation between the countries.
In addition, according to the state corporation Rosatom, citing federal media, Russia and Japan signed an intergovernmental agreement on the peaceful use of nuclear energy in the absence of a peace treaty between the two countries. The cooperation agreement includes the nuclear nonproliferation regime with all countries.
