In Irkutsk, from May 25, if the weather permits, flowers will be planted in squares and parks. More than 800 thousand petunias, marigolds and other plants have already been prepared for the season. In Gorzelenkhoz, seedlings were grown since January, and planting was decided to begin after the updated forecast to avoid late frosts. This year 10.5 million rubles have been allocated for the citys floral decoration, and there will be noticeably more flower beds and green sculptures than last season.

Starting Monday, if the weather permits, flower planting will begin in the squares and parks of Irkutsk.
Yesterday, the city’s chief dendrologist, Nadezhda Kuzmenkova, checked the readiness of the flower seedlings. She said that the first seedlings for the city flowerbeds were started in the greenhouses of Irkutsk’s “Gorzelenkhoz” back in January. More than 800,000 flowers of petunias, marigolds, and others have been grown.
“The seedlings are already ready, and planting will begin on May 25,” says Nadezhda Kuzmenkova, “after the updated weather forecast for the next ten days, so as not to be caught by return frosts. Even a brief drop in nighttime temperature to -1 is fatal for plants. For now, the forecast is favorable. This year, 10.5 million rubles have been allocated from the city budget for growing seedlings, planting, and caring for flowers, and slightly more flowers will be planted than last year. This is due to the fact that after the large-scale reconstruction of seven city squares last year, the area of the city flowerbeds has increased significantly. Flowers and other plants will decorate all of Irkutsk’s green sculptures – the elephant on Gagarin Boulevard, the deer in the square near the Circus, the bear and the seal at the GES roundabout, and the decorative spheres in the area of the Barguzin cinema and the Linguistic University.
