Russian schools have started the Unified State Exam. On May 26 graduates choose between biology and computer science, and results will be known in a week. In Irkutsk the exam is held at eight sites under strict supervision, and school doors are closed during testing. The main exam period lasts until June 19, including mandatory Russian and math exams, and this year retaking a failing grade has become especially important.
The Unified State Exam is beginning in Russian schools. On Tuesday, May 26, graduates will have to demonstrate their knowledge in either biology or computer science of their choice. The exam began exactly at 10:00 a.m. Four hours are allotted for the computer science Unified State Exam, and three hours for biology. This does not include the time set aside for preparatory procedures - briefing the Unified State Exam participants, opening the packets with exam materials, and filling in the registration fields on the Unified State Exam answer sheets.
Eight schools in Irkutsk became exam venues. Moreover, the Unified State Exam was taken by graduates not in their home schools, but in those educational institutions designated by the Ministry of Education of the Irkutsk Region. Testing began exactly at 10:00 a.m. after the packets with the assignments were opened. From that moment, the doors of the schools where the graduates' final assessment is taking place were locked. In the classrooms, observers are closely monitoring the process — these are mostly teachers from different schools. Each 11th-grade student has their own version of the test. The results will be known in a week.
The "wave" of state exams will run from May 26 to June 19. On Friday, May 29, schoolchildren will face the first mandatory Unified State Exam - in Russian language. The second mandatory Unified State Exam - in mathematics - awaits them on June 4. On the first day of June, graduates will be offered exams in geography and literature, on June 8 - in a foreign language, on June 11 - in social studies and chemistry, and on June 15 - in physics and history. As a reminder, in mid-May Rosobrnadzor set additional days on which it will be possible to retake the "failures" in the two mandatory subjects.
The reason is that this year last year's "plus one point" rule will not apply, and a failing grade in Russian language or mathematics is fraught with not receiving a certificate, which automatically closes the graduate's path to university. The Russian language exam can be retaken on June 17, and mathematics on June 20. On these same days, those who, for a valid reason, were unable to take the other exams on time will also take them.
As the head of Rosobrnadzor, Lyubov Glebova, assured, teachers will not be able to give hints to their students during the exam. "At the exam center, each classroom has two people for 15 people; these are teachers not from this school, they do not know these children and they are not teachers of the subject being examined. That is, they will not be able to give the children hints; accordingly, they do not have a pre-formed motive to give anyone hints," Radio Mayak quotes the official as saying.
