In Irkutsk, they plan to build a modern multifunctional stadium in the grove between schools No. 10 and No. 3, where children now have nowhere to do outdoor physical education properly. The green area will be preserved, and the new sports ground will have stands, running tracks, equipment, changing rooms, and showers. The stadium is intended not only for schoolchildren but also for local residents, and construction is planned to begin in 2010.

On July 9, the chairman of the Committee on Urban Planning Policy of the Irkutsk City Administration, Yevgeny Kharitonov, and City Duma deputy Vladimir Komarov visited the site where the sports area will be located.
The grove, on the territory of which a modern multifunctional stadium is planned to be built, is located between two educational institutions — School No. 10 and School No. 3. According to Irkutsk City Duma deputy Vladimir Komarov, this is simply a necessity for these educational institutions. They have no sports areas on school grounds. Therefore, during school hours, physical education classes had to be organized in the grove, where there were neither special sports facilities nor conditions for holding classes, or held at School 73, which has its own stadium.
“This was a big problem — the schools have gymnasiums, but there were no outdoor grounds where children could do physical education outside. And I began to actively work on this issue,” says Vladimir Komarov, deputy of the Irkutsk City Duma for electoral district No. 23. “Especially since, according to the master plan, the construction of a kindergarten is planned on the grove’s territory. And if you look at it geographically, the two schools are located 100–150 meters from this area. I would also like to raise the prestige of our district. To hold various sports competitions, both school and citywide.”
It is planned that the green area will be preserved. And the new stadium will feature several stands, sports equipment, running tracks, changing rooms, and showers.
“It is assumed that this stadium will be used both for schoolchildren’s classes and by local residents. And such a problem — the lack of a stadium — is not only here,” says Chairman of the Committee on Urban Planning Policy Yevgeny Kharitonov. “This issue is especially acute in educational institutions located in the central part of the city. We are working on this problem and trying to solve it.”
The chairman of the Irkutsk City Committee on Urban Planning Policy has taken up the development of the project. Construction of the stadium is scheduled to begin in 2010.
