The Governor of Irkutsk Region visited a gold mining enterprise in Bodaibo District during a working trip through northern Priangarye and discussed the industry's development prospects, which remain key for the area. At the meeting they raised declining output, lack of power capacity and funds for field development, and a possible merger of the power systems of Priangarye and Yakutia. The Governor of the Irkutsk Region continues a working trip through the northern territories of Priangarye. Yesterday morning, the head of the region visited one of the gold mining enterprises in the Bodaibo District.
He visited the quarry where ore is being extracted and familiarized himself with information on the enterprise’s development prospects. The head of the region also held a meeting on the prospects for the development of the local gold mining industry. For the district, this is the main industry, employing more than half of the working population of the area. The discussion covered such problems as declining production volumes, a shortage of energy capacity, and financial resources for developing ore deposits. The Governor of the region said that, to make up for the electricity deficit, an option is being worked out to integrate the power systems of Priangarye and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). By April, the regional government plans to discuss the issue of attracting investment for this project.
The Government of the Irkutsk Region intends to provide support to the region’s gold mining companies. Officials plan to develop and implement projects to increase energy capacity, as well as facilitate the revision of the status of lands located in zones of gold-bearing deposits in the Bodaibo District. To this end, the Government of the Irkutsk Region has appealed to federal authorities.
