The thief posed as a plastic window installer

In Irkutsk a 28 year old repeat offender was detained, who committed thefts posing as an employee of a plastic window installation company. Using residents trust, he entered apartments under the pretext of checking double glazed windows, and after he left owners found valuables missing. The story shows how an ordinary household service can become a cover for a new kind of crime.

Employees of the investigative department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Kirovsky District of Irkutsk have encountered a new type of crime. They detained a 28-year-old drug addict and repeat offender who committed thefts while posing as an employee of a plastic window installation company.
The victims describe the incident as follows: a well-dressed young man with refined manners came to their apartment. He said the reason for his visit was to check the proper quality of the recently installed double-glazed windows. This service is now quite common, and the necessary apartment can easily be identified by looking at the windows of the building. People usually did not even ask for the company’s name. They simply let a stranger, but someone who aroused no suspicion, into their home, and after he left they discovered that valuable items were missing.
