Crime rates have been reduced in the region. This was stated today by the head of the Main Internal Affairs Directorate for the Irkutsk Region, Alexey Antonov, at a meeting of the Public Council under this agency.
Thus, over the first two months of 2009, the number of offenses among minors decreased by 20% compared with the same period last year, and there has been a decline in robberies. This year, police officers intend to pay special attention to combating corruption and preventing property crimes. Alexey Antonov spoke about what law enforcement agencies accomplished last year. The participants discussed the first results of the joint work of the Main Internal Affairs Directorate and the Public Council, as well as plans for this year. After visiting the traffic police battalion, the Temporary Detention Center for Minors, and the Oktyabrsky District Internal Affairs Department of Irkutsk, council members noted that working conditions for employees, in particular district police officers, need to be improved.
- We would like to look at the current situation in a working order. Who works where, who lives how, what kind of contingent of people works, says the chairman of the Public Council under the Main Internal Affairs Directorate for the Irkutsk Region, Anatoly Streltsov.
- Despite the fact that criticism of police officers and of the current internal affairs bodies still exists, gradually we are beginning to understand each other and see what we could not see before, said Alexey Antonov.
