In the Angara region, Student Spring 2009 has begun, a festival for the Year of Youth that brought together 1300 students, graduate students, young teachers and creative groups from Irkutsk, Bratsk and Nizhneudinsk. This year it is held in a new integrated format, with rock, rap and theater festivals ahead, as well as the regional stage of the Robotics project with an exhibition of youth scientific and technical creativity. Winners will receive diplomas and take part in the gala concert on April 26, and the best Robotics participants will represent the region at the national contest in Moscow.

The traditional regional student festival “Student Spring-2009” opened today in the Angara region. This year, the festival is dedicated to the Year of Youth. It involves 1,300 young people — students from 14 higher education institutions and 10 secondary specialized educational institutions, graduate students, young teachers, and non-professional student creative groups from Irkutsk, Bratsk, and Nizhneudinsk.
– The “Student Spring” festival is aimed at supporting talented youth and has been held since 1996, said Igor Ivanov, Deputy Minister for Physical Culture, Sports, and Youth Policy of the Irkutsk Region. – It is gratifying to note that over the course of two weeks, bright, active, and talented young people will gather at venues of higher and secondary specialized educational institutions in Irkutsk. It is important for us to support the creativity of the younger generation. After all, working with talented youth is a priority area of the ministry’s activities.
Igor Ivanov noted that the format of the festival has changed this year. If previously the creative venues of “Student Spring” were held separately by category, this year the festival will take place in a comprehensive format.
Ahead are the rock festival on April 8, the rap festival on April 14, and the theater festival from April 8 to 23. In addition, within the framework of “Student Spring,” the regional stage of the federal project “Robotics” will be implemented — exhibitions of scientific and technical creativity among young people (April 9-24). The festival winners will be awarded laureate diplomas and will take part in the final gala concert, which will be held on April 26, 2009, at the Panorama nightclub.
The event is organized by the Ministry for Physical Culture, Sports, and Youth Policy of the Irkutsk Region, the Department for Physical Culture, Sports, and Youth Policy of the Committee on Social Policy and Culture of the Irkutsk City Administration, the Council of Rectors of higher education institutions, and the Council of Directors of secondary specialized educational institutions of Irkutsk.
Also, within the framework of Student Spring, the regional stage of the federal project “Robotics” has started. The project is included in the plan for the nationwide Year of Youth and is aimed at developing science-intensive technologies, as well as popularizing engineering specialties among young people. The exhibition of scientific and technical creativity among young people, “Robotics,” opened at the cultural and leisure center “Khudozhestvenny” as part of the regional festival “Student Spring-2009.”
– The Irkutsk Region has become one of the venues in the Siberian Federal District where the “Robotics” project is being implemented, said Igor Ivanov, Deputy Minister for Physical Culture, Sports, and Youth Policy of the Irkutsk Region. – The “Robotics” project consists of categories: aircraft, rocket, motorcycle, and ship modeling, instrument engineering, and innovative developments. The regional stage of the project will conclude on April 24. Its winners will represent the Irkutsk Region at the all-Russian competition in November 2009 in Moscow.
