Four youth projects from Irkutsk Region were included in the national Youth Year plan, including the Baikal 2020 camp, the international meeting Irkutsk is the middle of the earth, and an expedition marking the 70th anniversary of the victory at Khalkhin Gol. At the meeting, they also said 516 youth events have already been held in the region with over 40 thousand participants, but in some municipalities youth departments are being cut due to financial difficulties. Authorities stress economic problems cannot be solved at the expense of youth.

Four youth projects of the Irkutsk Region have been included in the plan for the nationwide Year of Youth. This was reported today at a meeting of the organizing committee for the Year of Youth to be held in 2009 in the Irkutsk Region by Igor Ivanov, Deputy Minister for Physical Culture, Sports, and Youth Policy of the Irkutsk Region.
Thus, in June an interregional training camp, "Baikal 2020," will be organized. In August, two international events will take place – the youth meeting "Irkutsk - the Middle of the Earth" with the participation of students from Mongolia and China, as well as the III International Youth Expedition "Youth of the Baikal Region - to the Heroes of Khalkhin Gol," dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet-Mongolian troops in the Khalkhin Gol River area. And in September, as part of Youth Decade, an interregional gathering of councils of young specialists will be held.
Igor Ivanov noted that following the results of the first quarter, 516 events were held in all 42 municipal entities of the region, involving more than 40,000 young people. However, problems in the field of youth policy remain in some municipalities. For example, due to the difficult financial situation in Tulun and the Tulun, Usolye-Sibirskoye, Kazachinsko-Lensky, and Taishetsky districts, the youth affairs departments were reduced. Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Irkutsk Region Alexander Moiseev emphasized that one cannot "solve economic problems at the expense of young people".
