Today in Irkutsk, the eighth regional museum festival “May Day-2009” begins under the slogan “Youth. Culture. Creativity.” For the first time, regional museums will be able to show themselves in all their splendor to the residents of the capital of Eastern Siberia.
The main and, perhaps, the brightest event of the festival, which will take place on Saturday, May 16, from 13:00 to 15:00 on Gagarin Boulevard, near the monument to Alexander III, is a fair of original ideas, projects, exhibitions, master classes, and other equally interesting programs from the life of the museums of the Irkutsk Region.
More than 40 state, municipal, and departmental museums of the Irkutsk Region will present vivid and colorful costume presentations-performances of their exhibitions, organize interesting contests and old games for children, tell and show how our grandmothers made their first dolls in childhood, and also introduce everyone interested to other traditional crafts. In addition, Irkutsk residents will be offered distinctive souvenirs made by local artisans.
The fair program includes performances by university creative groups in various genres: folklore, modern dance, vocals, rock. And throughout the event, prizes will be drawn on stage among the participants of the contest campaign “Go to a museum and win a computer,” which is being held from February 10 to May 16 in Irkutsk schools. At the end of the museum fair, the drawing for the main prize—a computer—will take place.

We invite you to the fair!
