The Summer Olympics may add five new sports, golf, rugby, squash, karate and sox. The article focuses on sox, a spectacular footbag discipline where athletes perform tricks with the ball and compete to music.

In the near future, five new sports may be included in the program of the Summer Olympic Games. By 2012, golf, rugby, squash, karate, and “socks” may receive Olympic status.
With each passing year, youth sports are taking on a more serious form and even becoming Olympic sports. This has already happened with snowboarding and freestyle; now it is “socks”’ turn. The US Olympic Committee is conducting an online vote to choose a non-Olympic sport that should be included in the program of the 2012 Summer Games.
About 15 international sports federations have already approached the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with a proposal to include “Socks” among the Olympic sports.
To explain: “Socks” is one of the variations of the game footbag. Around the world, this game is called “Footbag kick circle” or “Hacky Sack.” Our grandfathers used to play this exciting game too, although its rules and the socks themselves were significantly different from those that exist today. Now “Socks” is a discipline in which players demonstrate their skill by performing various tricks with a footbag. The tricks consist of leg rotations around the ball, catches on the feet, and kicks. Continuously linked one after another, the tricks form combinations that will not leave onlookers indifferent. “Socks” is a very spectacular sport, where a player can endlessly hone their incredible abilities. The most common “footbag game” among beginners is simple “juggling” of the ball in a circle.
The main competitive discipline in “Socks” is Routine. This is a two-minute performance to music, where the player is required not only to be able to do combinations, but also to harmoniously combine them with the chosen music, combining tricks and artistic elements.
