Irkutsk Public Chamber summed up its year of work, noting it has become an important link between residents and authorities. Activists help solve key city issues and propose new initiatives.
The voice of the people. And direct interaction with the authorities. The Public Chamber of Irkutsk began its work a year ago. Today, a reporting session was held, where the results of the work were discussed. It expresses the opinion of the majority of Irkutsk residents and gives recommendations to the authorities. The Public Chamber of Irkutsk actively participates in solving the most pressing issues: housing and communal services, urban improvement, youth employment. One of the latest initiatives of the public activists is to introduce the study of the history of the capital of Eastern Siberia into the school curriculum, as well as to publish a special textbook.
- Create a small book that would be a textbook for school, and at the same time, anyone could read it and gain the maximum knowledge about the history of the city, says the chairman of the Public Chamber of Irkutsk, Alexander Golovanov.
- Yes. That is exactly what should be done. We need to take people like that who know how to write simply and clearly for children, says Mayor Vladimir Yakubovsky.
Responding to the emerging social problems of Irkutsk residents is how the chairman of the Public Chamber of Irkutsk, Alexander Golovanov, sees the main task. He said that when the federal center decided to transfer IVVAIU to Voronezh, his organization actively joined in the search for a compromise:
- We understood that we would not be able to turn this situation around, the machine of the Ministry of Defense. And they did not scatter or sell off the territory and property of IVVAIU, and an elite GRU unit ended up in Irkutsk. Not the worst acquisition for Irkutsk.
The first governor of the Irkutsk Region, Yuri Nozhikov, was also invited to today's report. He emphasized the importance of the Public Chamber in the city:
- I wish the entire Public Chamber to act actively, aggressively, and effectively. To help the city authorities, the mayor, achieve their goals and solve many problems.
Irkutsk Mayor Vladimir Yakubovsky expressed gratitude to the members of the Public Chamber:
- I feel serious support from the Public Chamber. The decision on supporting small business simply turned around a situation that could not find a solution in any way. So thank you very much for your help, for your support. And I think that together with you we will solve and do a lot.
Vladimir Yakubovsky added that when the authorities are unable to "get through" to higher bodies, the help of public activists is simply invaluable.
