The executive committee unanimously supported Irkutsk as the host city for the 2014 world bandy championship. Viktor Kondrashov noted that the successful womens world championship this year also helped, and said plans include using the stadiums in Irkutsk and Shelekhov. At the meeting they discussed transport, lodging, food, and even asked whether the ice in Irkutsk would melt at the end of January.
“The executive committee meeting has just ended. They voted unanimously for Irkutsk,” Viktor Kondrashov said by phone. “Now 2014 will become a wonderful celebration for Irkutsk residents! We earned extra points for successfully hosting the Women’s World Championship this year. For the Men’s World Championship, we plan to use the stadiums in Irkutsk and Shelekhov. At the meeting, they asked many questions about transportation, accommodation, and food. They even asked whether the ice would melt in Irkutsk at that time. We assured them that at the end of January the ice in our city will not melt. Dear Irkutsk residents, congratulations on the holiday and on the victory!”Recall that on March 20 of this year, Viktor Kondrashov signed the application to host the Bandy World Championship in Irkutsk in 2014. This decision was supported by the president of the Russian Bandy Federation, Boris Skrynnik.
On July 12, a delegation led by the Mayor of Irkutsk left for Montenegro to fight for the right to host this world championship in the capital of the Angara region. Together with the mayor in Montenegro are Vladimir Matienko, president of the Irkutsk Region Bandy Federation, and the deputy mayor — chairman of the committee for social policy and culture of the Irkutsk city administration, Igor Borisov.
