In Irkutsk, 7350 first graders are expected, one thousand more than last year. At a press conference, it was said that after the new school admission rules, the issue of children without Irkutsk registration arose, and city authorities have already received clarification, from August 1 they can be admitted if there are free places. The education department assures that all first graders will be placed in schools and provided with qualified teachers.

According to preliminary data, 7,350 first-graders will come to the city’s schools, which is 1,000 more than last year. This information was shared at a press conference by Valentina Peregudova, head of the Education Department of the Irkutsk City Administration.
On May 7 of this year, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation approved a new procedure for admitting children to general education institutions. According to this document, each school must be assigned a microdistrict, and therefore educational institutions will accept children only if they have Irkutsk registration.
“Many families living in Irkutsk have come from other areas,” Valentina Peregudova noted. “They rent apartments here, work here, but do not have Irkutsk registration. It turns out that they may be refused admission to school. In this regard, the department has asked the Ministry of Education of Russia for clarification. And yesterday we received a response stating that from August 1 we may admit children who are not registered in the territory of Irkutsk to the city’s general education institutions. However, only if there are available places. I assure you that we will accept all first-graders and provide them with qualified staff.”
