In Irkutsk, preparations continue for the environmental campaign Let us do it. The city was divided into 230 areas, each assigned volunteer and organization teams. They will inspect areas, mark dumps on the eco map, and organize cleanup. All found pollution sites are planned to be cleared by the citywide cleanup day on September 15. Find out how to join the campaign and help make the city cleaner.
The meeting was attended by representatives of commercial organizations, volunteer movements, public organizations, and simply concerned residents of Irkutsk. The organizers explained in detail to those gathered the essence of the campaign and the work already done.As of today, the city has been divided into 230 sections, which are conventionally called squares. Each square includes about 3-4 blocks. A responsible group of campaign participants is assigned to each such square, and they regularly inspect their section, organize the cleanup of dumps, and mark newly appeared dumps and those already cleared on the eco-map. The participants also check information received from Irkutsk residents via the hotline. Volunteers go to the addresses in the areas assigned to them, photograph the dumps, and organize the cleanup. This work will continue until the end of August. The final inspection of the city will take place in early September, a few days before the scheduled citywide cleanup. All dumps identified by volunteers during this inspection will be cleared by city residents during the cleanup day on September 15.
During the meeting, 13 participants took patronage over sections of the city. Among them were commercial organizations, territorial public self-governments, youth organizations, and city residents who came to the meeting with their families. The sections were chosen in different parts of the city, usually near where they live. As of today, there are still sections that are not yet being monitored. In addition to the main task of the meeting — assigning those responsible for the squares — there was a presentation of the campaign and a discussion during which the organizers answered participants’ questions. The eco-map was also presented to those gathered, and everyone who had difficulties was taught how to use it.
“If we all want to, we can change our city and make it environmentally friendly. Hundreds of thousands of people have already cleaned their cities of trash as part of the ‘Let’s Do It!’ campaign. And the consequences of the campaign there turned out to be amazing. In those cities, a tradition has formed — not to litter, people’s consciousness has changed. They understand that administrative measures alone cannot solve the environmental situation in the world — the participation of every person in the fate of the planet is necessary. We hope that after the cleanup on September 15, we will wake up in the morning, see Irkutsk clean and beautiful, and want our city to always be like that,” said Viktor Kuzevanov, Director of the ISU Botanical Garden, member of the Irkutsk Public Chamber, and co-organizer of the “Let’s Do It!” campaign, summing up the meeting.
We remind you that the goal of the campaign is to make Irkutsk free of trash and to foster environmental awareness among Irkutsk residents. Every resident of Irkutsk can take part in the campaign and help clean up the city. To do this, it is necessary to photograph a trash dump, post the photo on the eco-map at www.ecofront.ru, and indicate the address where the dump is located. For everyone who very much wants to do this but does not have the opportunity to photograph and post the photo on the website, there is a hotline at 740-747, where you can call and report information about the dump. All dumps indicated on the map will be cleared within a month by city administration bodies, commercial and volunteer organizations. Then preparations will begin for a large-scale citywide cleanup day. It will take place on September 15 in Irkutsk.
