In Irkutsk, at the V.P. Sukachev Estate museum, a celebration was held for schoolchildren from large and disadvantaged families as part of the School Backpack campaign. 108 children received backpacks with a full set of school supplies, along with music, games, sweets, and a tour of the estate and museum. Organizers and sponsors helped make the start of the school year especially joyful. Some backpacks were funded by the city budget, and 50 more by the Yuri Ten Charitable Foundation.
A celebration for schoolchildren from large and disadvantaged families was organized the day before at the “V.P. Sukachev Estate” museum by the Committee for the Administration of the Oktyabrsky District of the Irkutsk city administration. The event was held as part of the traditional “School Backpack” campaign, timed to coincide with the start of the school year.Music, balloons, fun games, sweets, and even a tour of the estate itself and the museum became additional gifts for 108 children of all ages.
This year, school backpacks with a full set of stationery were given to 44 schoolchildren in grades 1 through 4 (the backpack cost 585 rubles), 44 in grades 5 through 8 (the backpack cost 870 rubles), and 20 high school students in grades 9 through 11 (the backpack cost 810 rubles). In total, more than 80,000 rubles were allocated from the city budget for these purposes for the Oktyabrsky District and 300,000 rubles for all districts overall.
At the presentation of the school backpacks, the children were greeted by Marina Korobova, executive secretary of the commission on juvenile affairs and the protection of their rights of the Committee for the Administration of the Oktyabrsky District of the Irkutsk city administration: “Dear children! Congratulations on the upcoming new school year! Knowledge Day is truly a holiday, so in honor of it we are giving you school backpacks. We wish you excellent studies, may you please your parents with good grades, and become useful to our city!”
The commission on juvenile affairs is the main organizer of the celebration. All of its members know the heroes of the event by name. The lists of those in need of support are compiled by social educators and inspectors from juvenile affairs departments as early as spring, so there are definitely no random children here.
Sponsors help organize the celebration. In addition to sweet gifts, an extra 50 backpacks were presented today to young “Oktyabryata” from the “Yury Ten Charitable Foundation.”
