Staff at Irkutsk City Hospital No. 1 turned the hospital grounds into a fairy tale garden, planting over a thousand plants and making dragonflies, birds, frogs, mushrooms, and even a pond with water lilies from materials at hand. Each department has its own area, where medics care for flower beds, trees, and new landscape designs, including alpine slides and a lovers alley. The contest results will be announced on September 21 at the autumn ball, where winners will get prizes and the main gift, a trip abroad.

More than a thousand green plantings in various landscape designs were planted by the staff of City Hospital No. 1, as the doctors themselves say, on the grounds of their second home. They treat people, and in their free time from work, they create. The dream of turning the area adjacent to the hospital into a fairy-tale garden with animals of unprecedented beauty has become a reality thanks to the efforts and imagination of the entire medical team. A dragonfly and an ant, mushrooms, birds, frogs, and even a pond with water lilies — everything was made from materials at hand: fabric, bottles, and plastic. It should be noted that each department of the medical institution is assigned a territory where the doctors plant flowers every year and care for the trees — trimming and loosening the soil. Altogether, the flowerbeds contain several thousand different flowers: petunias, dahlias, lilies, and even gladioli. This year, alpine slides and even an alley for lovers appeared, symbolized by a flowerbed in the shape of a heart. Skill, talent, and originality are evaluated by a special expert commission, which assigns scores.
“We have different nominations, there are no losers. There are 34 departments, and all of them will receive prizes at the autumn ball. Among them are awards for creativity, for stability, originality, and, of course, there is the Grand Prix. Last year, three employees went to Thailand on a voucher for it,” says the chief physician of City Hospital No. 1, Duma deputy Leonid Pavlyuk.
Without exaggeration, it can be said that the doctors never cease to amaze their patients and the city’s guests with creative projects. As Irkutsk residents themselves say, being in such a magical and picturesque setting lifts the mood, and that means health is on the mend.
The results of the contest will be announced on September 21. On this day, a big celebration will take place at the first city hospital — the autumn ball. The main prize this year is also a voucher — a trip abroad. In winter, instead of flowers, the grounds of the medical institution will be decorated with ice sculptures.
