On Griboyedov Street in Irkutsk, residents together with students and passersby planted a row of rowan trees as part of the project Beloved City, new parks. The initiative, launched in 2010, has already helped green 81 parks, and by the end of autumn the city plans to hold 80 more such events.

Rowan saplings on Griboedov Street near houses No. 2, 3, 67 were planted as part of the project “New Squares for Our Beloved City”
As a reminder, the project started in 2010. Its main goal was to draw Irkutsk residents’ attention to the problems of greening and improving Irkutsk. During this time, city residents have planted trees in 81 squares. As the project organizers, the Public Relations Department of the Irkutsk administration, note, the project has proved very popular; for most of its participants, planting trees often becomes a celebration for the entire courtyard.
The planting of the rowan avenue was no exception. Both adults and children came out from their homes to take part in creating the avenue. Students from the Technical University and the Irkutsk College of Architecture and Construction also took part in the planting. Even passersby were not indifferent, periodically stopping and helping with the planting.
“In 2011, the residents of our courtyard already planted 110 trees. This year, there was a desire to continue improving the area, especially since some green plantings were damaged during repair work. The Irkutsk administration helped: they provided saplings and soil,” says Irina Kaspirovich, chair of the Glazkovo Territorial Council. “When you do something and see the result of your labor, that is happiness. The saplings will grow, and the rowan avenue will bloom. Becoming a decoration of the courtyard, it will delight us with its beauty.”
As Olga Kurelenkova, head of the Public Relations Department of the Irkutsk administration, said, another 80 similar events are planned from September to November 2012.
