In the Novo Lenin home for the elderly and disabled in Irkutsk, about 7 million rubles were allocated in 2012 to improve living conditions. The funds updated elevators, bought a special bus for wheelchair users, and planted 59 tree saplings to green the grounds. The institution also reported a notable rise in social care workers wages and bonuses given to two employees for professional achievements.

About 7 million rubles from the regional budget were allocated in 2012 to improve living conditions at the Novo-Leninsky Home for the Elderly and Disabled in Irkutsk. This was reported by the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Irkutsk Region, Valentina Voblikova, during a visit to the institution.
As the institution’s director, Irina Borisova, said, 59 tree saplings were purchased this year with regional budget funds to landscape the grounds: silver poplars, blue spruces, apple trees, lilacs, and ornamental shrubs. In June, the trees were planted in the garden with the help of specialists, and now the institution’s residents care for them.
In addition, with the allocated funds, the home-internat replaced the hospital and passenger elevators and purchased a special bus designed to transport wheelchair users. 2.8 million rubles were allocated for the elevators, and the bus cost the regional treasury 2.6 million rubles. The bus is equipped with a special wheelchair lift and can carry a total of three passengers, three wheelchairs, and two accompanying persons. The institution’s director noted that having the bus now makes it possible to take the home’s residents on excursions, to museums, and to the clinic.
As Valentina Voblikova noted, in 2012 the regional government paid great attention to raising the status of social service workers: from March to September, the payroll fund was increased by almost 50%, from 7,000–9,000 rubles to 15,500 rubles.
For high achievements in professional activity, in June 2012 two employees of the home-internat were awarded the Governor of the Irkutsk Region’s prize “To Employees of State Social Service Institutions of the Irkutsk Region for High Achievements in Professional Activity.”
The home-internat is home to 167 people, including 134 disabled persons. The average age of the citizens receiving social services at the institution is 71 years. The institution provides social services to people aged from 24 to 96, and the staff of the home-internat numbers 155 people.
