In Irkutsk on September 20 21 a venture cafe will be presented an unusual venue for meetings of entrepreneurs investors and business angels. It will operate in the 130th quarter and several times a month it will host closed informal meetings to exchange contacts and find new projects. The idea came after seeing similar cafes in the US and is meant to create a permanent space in the city for innovators and investors to communicate.
The presentation of the café will take place on September 20-21 during the XIII Russian Venture Fair and the III Baikal Venture Fair. This was reported by the head of the department for financial support and infrastructure innovation projects of the Ministry of Information Technologies, Innovation Development and Communications of the Irkutsk Region, Evgeny Semenov.“Similar establishments exist in the United States,” said Evgeny Semenov. “I am sure that it will be in demand in our city. It will be a real operating café in the 130th Quarter. Only on certain days—1-2 times a month—closed meetings between entrepreneurs and investors will be held there. In an informal setting, they will get acquainted and exchange contacts. As a result, there should appear a permanently operating venue for communication between investors, business angels, and innovators.”
The idea to open a venture café in our city was proposed by the Executive Director of the Russian Venture Capital Association (RAVI), Albina Nikkonen. The idea of creating such a café came after a visit to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) located in Cambridge, USA.
