Irkutsk is preparing for the start of the heating season, city officials say preparations are on schedule and readiness for heat is already high. Over the summer facilities were checked and repaired, main networks put into circulation, and the 21 leaks found are promised to be fixed by Friday. There are also questions for management companies over delays in supplying heat to apartment buildings, although heating in the city is due to begin from September 17 to 21.

“The situation with preparing the city for heat is under control, and the planned schedule is being followed. Readiness is high today. Throughout the summer, all facilities were inspected and the necessary repairs were carried out, and the city is ready to receive heat,” commented Konstantin Bashkov, head of the Department of Housing Services and Engineering Communications of the Housing and Utilities Committee of the Irkutsk city administration.
All main networks have been put into circulation. Twenty-one leaks have been recorded, but all malfunctions must be eliminated by Friday.
A number of questions arose for management companies that have partially not begun supplying heat to the residential stock they service, citing the good weather. Today, more than 20% of the housing stock has been connected to heat. Housing cooperatives and homeowners’ associations are guided by the rationale that heating is supplied when the average daily temperature does not exceed +8 degrees for five days.
“Prepare the control units, start the heat, so that you are ready for a drop in air temperature. It is necessary to be sure that the condition of all systems is in working order and ready to supply heating,” Konstantin Bashkov explained to representatives of the management companies.
According to the schedule, heating should be supplied across the city from September 17 to 21.
