In Russia, amid new traffic police rules on mailing fines, scammers have become active. Drivers receive fake notices for camera recorded violations. The payment details lead not to the traffic police but to Yandex.Money or WebMoney.
In Russia, in connection with new traffic police innovations regarding the mailing of fine notices by post, a new type of fraud is flourishing. Motorists are receiving fake fine notices for traffic violations allegedly recorded by video cameras.Letters sent in the name of the traffic police contain information about an alleged violation recorded by surveillance cameras, as well as a fine notice and a demand to pay the fine.
As a rule, minor violations are indicated, such as speeding, and the amount of the fine does not exceed 300 rubles; however, the payment details in the notice have nothing to do with the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, and instead list certain accounts in the “Yandex. Money” or “Web Money” system. It also states that payment can be made using payment terminals installed in the city.
The police warn: be careful and check the fines you receive!
