On September 26 at 3:00 p.m., the Irkutsk Regional Youth Library named after I.P. Utkin will host a literary evening, “Remember Me Cheerfully...,” dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the birth of playwright Alexander Vampilov.
Invited to the evening are people who knew Alexander Vampilov well: ISU professor and local historian Vitaly Zorkin; writer and journalism veteran Arnold Kharitonov; and senior lecturer at the ISU Department of Philology, member of the Union of Journalists of Russia Igor Petrov. The friends will share their memories of our fellow countryman.
Young performers from the theater group “School Theater” (Municipal Educational Institution Secondary School No. 65) will present a dramatization of Vampilov’s story “The Finnish Knife and Persian Lilac.” A documentary video film about Vampilov will be shown. Everyone will be able to view a book exhibition telling about the writer’s life and work.
The literary evening opens a series of meetings with interesting people within the framework of the “Bolshaya Street” project. It was on the stage of the Irkutsk Academic Drama Theater named after N.P. Okhlopkov, whose building is located on the former Bolshaya Street (Karl Marx Street), that the premiere of Vampilov’s first play, “The Elder Son,” took place, and later all of the author’s plays were staged there. In the square near the theater stands a bronze figure of Vampilov by People’s Artist of Russia Mikhail Pereyaslavets.
The Irkutsk State University also immortalized the playwright’s name; on the administrative building of the university, a memorial plaque has been installed for Alexander Vampilov, a graduate of the Faculty of Philology.
Everyone is invited to the meeting (contact person – Sakharovskaya Raisa Viktorovna, chief bibliographer of the Department of Humanities Literature of the I.P. Utkin Regional Youth Library, tel. 29-07-93).
